Add the above code to the Entity OnLoad (and ensure that you enable the event) and after that you are ready to show/hide elements on the CRM form.

By using the IE Developer toolbar, you can retrieve the id of the element to be hidden (note in IE 8 this come built in and is not a seperate download). Open an entity record (in this case a Contact), press CTRL+N to open it in a new window, and then select IE Developer Toolbar.

Using the controls, select the item you want to hide and get the element id. In this case I have selected the “Opportunities” link and the id is “navOpps”



Using this, I can call the SetElementVisible function like this to hide the Opportunities link:


SetElementVisible('navOpps', HIDE);


To hide the entire “Sales” section from the left-hand navigation pane, I can once again find the id, but this time is of the parent item which would result in the following call to hide it:


SetParentElementVisible('_NA_SFA', HIDE);


Lastly, to hide an element on the form such as the “Job Title” field, you once again should use the IE Developer Toolbar to retrieve the element id and then call the SetCrmControlVisible function:


SetCrmControlVisible('jobtitle', HIDE);


By selecting either the textbox or the label, for the Job Title, the returned id will be “jobtitle_c” or “jobtitle_d” – remove everything including and after the “_” and pass that to the SerCrmControlVisible function and you are done!

For instance, in Opportunity form of Microsoft CRM if you want to change the “Potential Customer” field’s default entity from Account to Contact. You need to use the following piece of code in onLoad event of the Opportunity Form.


Remember to enable the event and then save and publish the opportunity entity.
 Following are codes of basic entities of Microsoft CRM 3 ;

• Account    1
• Contact     2
• Lead         4

To implement follow the steps below.

1.Create a new html file
2.Create a new javascript file and copy the above code into it
3.Include a reference to the jQuery javascript library
4.Include a reference to the javascript in your html file
5.Add a "div" tag to the html file and give it an "id"
6.Add another "div" tag inside the "div" you created in step 4. and put a blank space
7.To initialize the progress bar; create a new variable to hold the progress bar, then create a new instance of the progress bar by specifying the "id" of the div you created in step 4.
eg: var progressBar1 = new crmProgressBar("id-of-div");
8.To step/increment the progress bar use the step() instance method
eg: progressBar1.step(10); // will increment to 10%;

Sometimes when you write inline code inside Javascript tag or inside style sheet tag within the header of the page just like code 1, the yellow error page will explode in your face telling you that The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e. <% ... %>).


There are two solutions to overcome this error.

Solution 1 :

Move the JavaScript tag to the bottom of the page, typically above the close form tag.


Solution 2 :

By registering the JavaScript code from code behind.
